Situated in Glendowie, Auckland with its commanding views of the Waitemata Harbour, multiple meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, and the ability to sleep up to 60 people, Philosophy House was built in the 1930s, is a unique and memorable location for conferences, functions and retreats.

Formerly owned by two of New Zealand’s early 20th Century business leaders, Sir Kenneth Myers and Sir Robert Kerridge, guests of the House can also enjoy its established and extensive formal grounds and incomparable views.

Occupied by the School of Philosophy since 1989, the House emanates a unique, peaceful and reflective atmosphere suitable for both large and small groups.

The four-storey main House including:

• A large central conference room
• Three smaller break-out rooms including a sunlit conservatory
• A library
• A commercial kitchen with a walk-in fridge; commercial grade gas oven and hobs; a sterilisation unit for crockery and cutlery
• Ability to accommodate approximately 30 guests
• Basement laundry

The “Annexe” including:
• 12 bedrooms and three shared bathrooms

The property is quiet and secluded with ample off-street parking for 30 or more vehicles as well as unlimited (and unmetered!) on-street parking. For your information, this is a working property, used regularly by School of Philosophy, not a professional conference facility so more of a 3-4 star feel than 5 stars. A unique and hospitable venue without the frills and high-end price tag.

This property would be suitable for groups running conferences or business meetings of up to 60 people. There is a good supply of equipment, and you can of course bring in your own equipment if required. In the past it has been a location for movies, community events, yoga classes, philosophy residential retreats, music camps, wedding and birthdays. Due to the special nature of the property, it isn’t really suitable for 21st birthday parties or children’s events.
